Just a 20-minute train ride away from Barcelona’s Plaça de Catalunya, Montgat has a surprisingly clean beach and is not too crowded. The train stops a few moments walk from the beach and sun worshippers have 2.5km of waterfront to choose from.
You will not find as many beach vendors here as in the city but, for many, that is a plus, and there are a couple of very good chiringuitos and permanent restaurants including a few super restaurants in the town itself.
If you are a fan of beach volleyball then this is your place as there are various nets dotted around and players tend to be friendly and open to newcomers.
There are also options to hire paddle boards and canoes.
Both Mongat and Mongat Nord have beaches, the latter being slightly less busy.
The Old Town of Montgat with its quirky fishermen’s houses and cute bars and restaurants is worth exploring, just 2 minutes from the seafront.
